Material changes

While the cross-border rules for credit service generally remain the same, according to local experts, the current stance of the Central Bank of Cyprus (supervisory authorities) with regard to mortgage credit is the following:

With regard to mortgage credits for properties located in Cyprus, the Land Registry has a list of licensed institutions authorised to register mortgages on consumer immovable properties. In practice, registration of such mortgages in the Cypriot Land Registry is therefore not possible for foreign unlicensed credit institutions. Although according to the unofficial discussions, the same obstacles exist for mortgage credits to non-consumers, it seems that in practice, in the case of non-consumers, registration might occasionally be possible.

Non-material changes

Some legal bases have been updated, comments/conditions reworded and further minor changes have been made throughout the documents.
